Getting started (FAQ)

What is Racee?

[+]

Racee is an online marketplace that connects runners who can’t use their race entries with runners looking for tickets. We help you buy and sell race entries safely and securely at face value.

How does Racee work?

[+]

Sellers list their race entries at face value or less. Buyers purchase tickets through our secure platform. Once payment is made, the seller transfers the entry into the buyer’s name through the race organiser’s system. Payment is held securely in escrow and released to sellers 5 working days after the event.

Is this legal?

[+]

Yes! Racee operates as a legitimate ticket marketplace and work within race organisers’ terms and conditions.

What are the fees involved?

[+]

Buyers pay: 8% service fee + 2% transaction fee

Sellers pay: 5% service fee

A minimum service fee of £1.50 will apply.

For Buyers (FAQ)

How do I purchase a ticket?

[+]
  1. Browse available races on our platform
  2. Select the ticket you want
  3. Create an account (if you haven’t already)
  4. Complete payment
  5. Provide your details for the ticket transfer (name, email, and sometimes date of birth/address depending on the race)
  6. Wait for the seller to transfer the entry into your name
  7. Receive confirmation from the race organiser

Is payment secure?

[+]

Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe and held in escrow until after the event to protect you.

When will I receive my ticket confirmation?

[+]

The seller has 72 hours to initiate the transfer after your purchase. Once they transfer the entry, the race organiser will send you a confirmation email. This timeline varies by race – some confirmations arrive immediately, others closer to race day. Some races require bib collection at the event. You can also log onto your account and view the order transfer confirmation that the seller has uploaded.

What if I don't receive a ticket confirmation?

[+]

Contact us immediately at support@raceetickets.com. If the seller hasn’t transferred the ticket within 72 hours, we’ll automatically intervene. Our Buyer Guarantee protects you – if you don’t receive a valid ticket, you’ll get a full refund including all fees.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

[+]

No. Race entries are for specific dates and times, so they’re exempt from the 14-day cooling-off period. However, if you can no longer attend, you can re-list your ticket on Racee (check the race’s transfer policy first to ensure they allow it).

What is the Racee Buyer Guarantee?

[+]

Our Buyer Guarantee means:

– You’ll receive your ticket on time

– Your ticket will be valid for entry

– Your ticket will match the description

If any of these fail, we’ll give you a full refund including all fees. You must report issues within 48 hours after the event.

What if my ticket is invalid or doesn't work?

[+]

Report it to us within 48 hours after the event. Provide evidence (emails, screenshots, race organiser correspondence, photos if you were turned away). We’ll investigate and if the ticket was indeed invalid, you’ll receive a full refund including all fees under our Buyer Guarantee.

How long do I have to report a problem with the entry?

[+]

You must report issues within 48 hours after the event. This helps us investigate quickly while evidence is fresh. This reporting window doesn’t affect your statutory consumer rights.

Can I buy a ticket on behalf of someone else?

[+]

Yes, but the race entry must be transferred into the runner’s name. Make sure to provide their correct details (not yours) when completing the purchase so the seller can transfer the entry to them.

Do I have to purchase a ticket from someone who estimated the same run time as me?

[+]

No. Run time estimates don’t restrict who can buy a ticket. However, some races have wave starts based on estimated times. Check the listing details and race information to understand what you’re purchasing.

Will my name be on the race entry?

[+]

Yes. The seller will transfer the race entry into your name using the race organiser’s official transfer system. You’ll receive confirmation from the race organiser once the transfer is complete.

What information does the seller receive about me?

[+]

The seller receives only the information necessary to complete the ticket transfer. This typically includes:

– Your full name (always)

– Your email address (always)

– Your date of birth (if required by the race organiser)

– Your postal address (if required by the race organiser for bib delivery)

The specific information depends on what the race organiser requires for their transfer system. Sellers are strictly prohibited from using this information for any purpose other than the ticket transfer, and must not retain it after the transfer is complete.

Can I contact the seller directly?

[+]

No. All communication goes through Racee. This protects both buyers and sellers and ensures transactions stay within our secure platform where you’re covered by our guarantees.

  5. Once transferred you will be required to confirm this on the order and upload

[+]

No. Buyer payments are held in escrow and released to your Racee account balance 5 working days after the event.

Why does Racee hold funds in escrow?

[+]

Escrow allows Racee to:

– Protect buyers from invalid or undelivered tickets

– Resolve disputes fairly

– Comply with UK consumer protection laws

Can tickets be sold above face value?

[+]

No. You can only list your ticket at the face value you originally paid to the race organiser.

What if my race entry cost less than £5?

[+]

Race entries with a face value below £5 cannot be listed on Racee.

What is the minimum and maximum price I can list a ticket for?

[+]

The minimum listing price is £5.00. The maximum listing price is the face value of the ticket.

When will I receive my money?

[+]

Payment is released to your Racee account balance 5 working days after the event (assuming no issues are reported by the buyer during the 48-hour dispute window). You can then request your balance to be paid out which can take up to 5 working days.

How do I transfer the ticket to the buyer?

[+]

After your ticket sells, we’ll send you the buyer’s details needed to complete the transfer.

You then:

  1. Log into the race organiser’s website/system
  2. Find the ticket transfer section
  3. Enter the buyer’s details as provided
  4. Submit the transfer
  5. Confirm with us that the transfer has been initiated (within 72 hours) by selecting ‘Confirming Transfer’ on the order and upload proof.

In some cases you may need to email the race organiser directly.

How long do I have to transfer the ticket after it sells?

[+]

You must confirm that you’ve initiated the ticket transfer and uploaded proof within 72 hours of the sale. Failure to do so may result in us sourcing a replacement ticket at your expense, payment being withheld, and/or account suspension.

If the race organiser charges a transfer fee, who’s responsible for paying it?

[+]

You do, as the seller, and you must absorb this cost. This is why it’s important to consider transfer fees before listing low-value tickets. Check the race organiser’s transfer policy before deciding to sell.

What happens if there's a problem with the ticket I'm selling?

[+]

If a buyer reports that:

– The ticket wasn’t delivered, or

– The ticket was invalid or refused entry

Racee will investigate and may request evidence from both you and the buyer.

If the issue is confirmed:

– The buyer will be refunded

– Your payment will not be released

– We may source a replacement ticket at your expense

Can I cancel a sale after someone buys my ticket?

[+]

No. Once your ticket sells, it’s a binding contract. You’re legally obliged to transfer the ticket as described.

What happens if I can't transfer the ticket after selling it?

[+]

Failure to transfer a ticket so may result in us sourcing a replacement ticket at your expense, payment being withheld, and/or account suspension.

Can I edit my listing after posting it?

[+]

Yes, you can edit or delete your listing at any time before it sells. Once someone purchases your ticket, the listing is locked and cannot be changed.

Can I list multiple tickets?

[+]

Yes but you will need to list them separately.

What if the race organiser doesn't allow transfers?

[+]

We only have events on our site that allow name changes or transfers. If your specific ticket is non-transferable, please do not list it on our site as we will ultimately refund the buyer and you will not receive payment.

Can I sell an entry that’s already been transferred before?

[+]

Some races only allow one transfer – check the race organiser’s terms and conditions. If you purchase a ticket on Racee and later want to resell it, verify the race allows multiple transfers before listing it again on our platform.

I have a charity spot, can I list it on Racee?

[+]

No. Charity places and championship entries are not accepted on Racee as race organisers don’t allow these to be transferred or sold.

Races & Events FAQ

Why don't you have the race I want?

[+]

We’re constantly adding new races. If a race isn’t listed, it might be because:

– We haven’t added it yet

– The race doesn’t allow name changes/transfers

– It’s a championship or qualification race

– It’s a virtual or hybrid event (we only support in-person races)

Request races by sending us an email, and we’ll work on adding them.

What if the event is cancelled?

[+]

Racee is not the event organiser. If a race is cancelled, buyers are directed to the race organiser for refunds. Racee may assist administratively and manage escrowed funds where applicable.
